Effective 21 October 2026
PaceChalk is a service of Bores Sports Technologies, the trading name of Ethan Bores in Norwalk, Ohio. The short version: you can look around the demo without telling me anything. If you sign in and keep your own team, what you type is stored in your account so you can open it on any device, and it is used for nothing else. If you buy a pass, Stripe takes the payment and PaceChalk never sees your card. Nothing is sold or shared. There are no analytics and no trackers.
The demo
Before you sign in, PaceChalk shows a made-up team. You can change anything in it. The changes stay in that browser tab and are gone when you reload or close it. Nothing about the demo is sent or kept.
Signing in
PaceChalk uses your CourseChalk account, also run by Bores Sports Technologies. When you click Sign in, you go to coursechalk.com, sign in there (with Google or your email and password), and click Continue. CourseChalk then tells PaceChalk your account number, email address, name, school and state. PaceChalk never sees your password. How CourseChalk handles your account is in its privacy page.
Your first sign-in starts a 30-day free trial. It needs no card. When it ends, what you saved is kept and can be downloaded, and saving again needs a pass.
What PaceChalk keeps
| What | Why | How long |
|---|---|---|
| Your account number, email address, name, school and state, as CourseChalk gave them at your last sign-in | To know whose teams these are | Until you delete your PaceChalk data |
| Your teams, if you save them during your free trial or with a pass: seasons, athletes' names and class years, a birth date if you add one, cross country race results and splits, track meet results, schedule, standards, goals and notes, and your school's logo and colors for reports — whatever you type | So you can open them on any device you sign in on | Until you delete them |
| Earlier versions of your teams | So a mistake can be undone | 30 days |
| One record per device you are signed in on: the browser and system it reports (“Chrome on Windows”), when you signed in, and when it was last used | To keep you signed in, and to sign every device out when you delete your data | 90 days, or until that device signs out |
| Your free trial: your account number, email address, and the days it started and ends | So each account gets one trial | Kept after you delete your data, so deleting does not start a new trial |
| A pass you buy: the email address you typed at checkout, the account it is for, what you bought (PaceChalk, PaceChalk + CourseChalk, or either as a staff plan; yearly or one season), the amount, the day it ends, whether it was refunded, and Stripe's reference numbers for the payment, customer and subscription. No card details: PaceChalk never receives them | To know you have a pass, to renew it each year if you chose yearly, and to handle a refund | Kept as a business record, including after you delete your PaceChalk data |
| A pass given free: your email address, whether it is for one coach or a staff, the day it ends, and a note of why (for example, "assistant coach") | To know you have one | Kept as a business record; marked when it is taken back |
| Coaches on your teams, if you add any: each coach's email address, editor or viewer, when you added them and when they joined | To let them open your teams, and to show you who can | Until you remove them, they leave, or you delete your PaceChalk data |
| Invitation emails you send by adding a coach: the coach's address and when each email went | To keep to the sending limits (one email to an address every ten minutes, twenty a day) | 30 days |
No IP address and no location are kept with any of this.
Results files you upload (PDF, web page, CSV) are read in your browser. The file itself is not sent anywhere; only what you fill into your race is saved.
Reports you save as PDF. During your free trial, with a pass, or on a team with a staff plan, PaceChalk makes the PDF file for you: your browser sends the report (what that screen shows, such as athletes' names and results, with your logo) to Cloudflare Browser Run, which prints it and sends the file straight back. Neither the report nor the file is stored or logged. In the demo, or without a pass, the report does not leave your browser: it opens in your browser's print window.
Paying
Passes are sold by Stripe as merchant of record, through Link, Stripe's checkout. You enter your card details on Stripe's page, not on PaceChalk's. Stripe takes the payment, sends the receipt, works out sales tax and answers billing questions, under Stripe's privacy policy and Link's.
When you pay, Stripe tells PaceChalk what is listed in the table above: no card number, no bank details. The payment link also carries your PaceChalk account number, so the pass reaches the account you were signed in with.
A yearly pass renews through Link each year until you cancel it at app.link.com/recurring. If you buy PaceChalk + CourseChalk (or the staff plan with CourseChalk), coursechalk.com receives the same notice from Stripe and emails a CourseChalk license key to the address you paid with, as described on its privacy page.
Athletes' information
If you are a school administrator vetting this tool: coaches type their athletes' names, class years and race and meet results into PaceChalk. A birth date is optional: a coach can add one so the age grade (how good a time is for the athlete's age) uses the exact age, and it is used for nothing else. Without it, the age is worked out from the grade. Athletes do not sign in and are never contacted. What a coach saves is stored only in that coach's account, seen by nobody else except the coaches that coach adds to their teams, never sold, never used for advertising, and deleted when the coach deletes it.
Coaches: if your school or district has rules about putting student information into online tools, check with them before you enter athletes. You can download everything and delete it at any time.
Coaches on your teams
On the staff plan (and during the free trial) you can add up to five coaches to your teams by their email address. A coach you add sees every team and season in your account, athletes included: an editor can enter and change results; a viewer can only look and download a copy. They sign in with their own CourseChalk account. PaceChalk emails each coach you add an invitation from team@pacechalk.com, naming you and your school, with a link to join; replies go to your email address. Only that address can join, so a forwarded email gives no one else anything. You can send it again from Coaches. You see their name and address under Coaches, and they see yours. Remove a coach at any time and they lose your teams at once. If the staff plan ends, the coaches stay listed and can still look, but cannot save.
If a coach adds you to their teams, what you change there is saved in their account, not yours, and follows their choices: they can remove you, and deleting their data deletes those teams.
What is stored in your browser
When you are signed in and saving (during your free trial, with a pass, or as an editor on another coach's teams), a copy of the teams is kept in this browser's storage, so a dropped connection at a meet loses nothing: changes go up when the connection is back. While some changes are not yet saved, the last saved copy is kept beside them, so they can be put together with changes another coach saved meanwhile. Signing out deletes both. On a shared computer, sign out when you finish.
Teams saved with PaceChalk before accounts existed stay in the browser where they were made, until you move them into your account (PaceChalk offers this when your account is empty) or clear the browser's site data.
Cookies and analytics
Two cookies, and only if you sign in. pc_session holds a long random number that matches your device record and keeps you signed in for 90 days; signing out deletes both. pc_connect exists for up to fifteen minutes while you sign in, to make sure the trip to coursechalk.com and back belongs to your browser. CourseChalk sets its own cookies on coursechalk.com, described on its privacy page, and Stripe sets its own on its checkout page.
There is no Google Analytics, no pixel, no session recorder and no advertising network. I see only what Cloudflare shows in aggregate: page counts and countries, with nothing I could tie to a person.
Who else touches anything
| Service | What it handles |
|---|---|
| Cloudflare | Serves the site and stores what is listed above. Keeps standard security and request logs. Prints reports into PDF files (Browser Run) and keeps nothing of them. |
| CourseChalk (coursechalk.com) | Your account and sign-in, as described above. For PaceChalk + CourseChalk, your CourseChalk license key. Free passes are given from an admin page there, open only to me. Same operator. |
| Stripe, and Link, its checkout | Takes payment for a pass as merchant of record: card details, billing address, receipt, sales tax. Tells PaceChalk what was bought, as described under Paying. |
| Resend | Sends the invitation email when you add a coach: the coach's address, your name, school and email address, and the message. Resend's privacy policy. |
I do not sell your information, share it for advertising, or hand it to anyone else.
Children
PaceChalk is a tool for coaches and is not directed to children. Athletes do not use it or sign in. Information about athletes is entered by their coach, and stays in that coach's account, open only to the coaches that coach adds.
Your choices
Signed in, open the menu under your name:
- Download a copy (.json) — everything in your account, in one file.
- Earlier versions — put back your teams as they were, up to 30 days ago.
- Coaches — add, change or remove the coaches on your teams; join or leave another coach's teams.
- Delete my PaceChalk data — deletes your teams, earlier versions, the coaches on your teams and your places on other coaches' teams, device records and account record at once, and signs you out everywhere. Your CourseChalk account is not touched. Records of payments and of your free trial stay, as business records; a pass you hold still works if you sign in again.
Or email support@coursechalk.com and I will do any of it for you within a few days. To stop a yearly pass renewing, cancel it at app.link.com/recurring, or email me.
Security
Everything travels over HTTPS. The sign-in cookie cannot be read by scripts on the page, and only a one-way hash of it is stored. Each account can reach only its own data.
Where this operates
PaceChalk is run from the United States, for coaches in the United States. If you use it from elsewhere, your information is handled in the United States.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, I will change the date at the top and say so on the site.
